Wellcome to Willemus Art
Willemus is
a nickname given to me as a child by a few close family
members which (thank goodness) fell into disuse as I grew up. It
nevertheless came in handy when I decided
to revive its use to serve as a signature for my artworks
and to act as a nom de plume behind which I can maintain some privacy
and distance from my artistic persona. I consider the absence of the
limelight to be conducive to the
artmaking process.
I completed a Fine Arts Degree at University of
Pretoria in the early 80's and subsequently acquired a professional
qualification in architecture as well. Since then I have been active in
both
fields, spending among other things more than a decade teaching, and am
currently running both an
architectural practice as well as Willemus Art.
This
website was created to showcase my work, to serve as a
platform for explaining my art (when needed), to market it and to
provide me with a forum where I can express some of my
views
about- and approaches to art.
The website is still under construction, so
expect to see new things added bit by bit over the coming
months. I also request your kind patience while doing the beta-testing of this site to rid it of remaining glitches.
