Willem Basson
BA (Fine Arts), ND (Architecture)
Willem Basson, owner of Right Angle Designs, graduated in Fine Art
at the University of Pretoria in 1981 and subsequently qualified in
Architectural Technology at Technikon Witwatersrand (currently known as
University of Johannesburg). He then spent time working in various
architectural practices and companies until he opened a practice of his
own. During that time he also did numerous architectural
perspective illustrations for top property developers and
advertising agencies. Some of his house designs and numerous
perspective renderings were published in- and on the front cover of SA
Homeowner magazine, as well as the book Elite Homes of Southern
Africa published by Avonwold Publishing Company.
Willem is currently the chairperson of the Pretoria Chapter of the
South African Institute of Architectural Technologists (SAIAT)and is
also professionally registered with the South African Council for
Architectural Professionals (SACAP).
Willem has also lately moved into external renovation of buildings,
focussing mostly on the application of coloured cement and artificial
rockface finishes. He has recently become involved in eco friendly, low
energy (often autonomous or partially autonomous) architecture, with
emphasis on finding low cost, easy to implement,
easy-&-inexpensive-to-maintain solutions in this field.
Willem also sculpts, paints and draws in his free time under the
name Willemus.
